Participants plant trees in new vegetable garden

(MissionNewswire) Salesian missionaries have inaugurated a waste-to-wealth station and a vegetable garden at the Don Bosco College, located in Yelagiri Hills, Tamil Nadu, India. The Salesian community, faculty members, and students gathered together to celebrate the launch and the continued environmental sustainability efforts of the college.

The inauguration started with prayer service led by Father Thaddeus, principal of Don Bosco College, who emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. Father Gianni Rolandi encouraged everyone present to actively engage in initiatives aimed at environmental conservation and community welfare.

Following the event, participants planted trees in the vegetable garden. This underscored the commitment of Don Bosco College toward fostering a greener and more sustainable environment.

A Salesian said, “The two new projects at Don Bosco College were a resounding success, thanks to the collective efforts of the Salesian community, faculty members and enthusiastic students. India’s youth face a lack of educational opportunities due to issues of caste, class and gender. Almost 44% of the workforce is illiterate and less than 10% of the working-age population has completed a secondary education. In addition, many secondary school graduates do not have the knowledge and skills to compete in today’s changing job market. Salesians provide a range of education and social programs to help support youth and their families.
