Work renews commitment to environmental stewardship

(MissionNewswire) Students from Don Bosco High School, located in Borivali, a suburb located in northwestern Mumbai, India, participated in a beach clean-up drive organized by the Science and Nature Club and held in July at Gorai Beach.

Twenty-five estudents and five teachers took part in cleaning up the environment. Before embarking on the drive, students learned about environmental responsibility, safety measures and the importance of preserving natural ecosystems.

A Salesian explained, “Setting out from the school at nine in the morning, the students arrived at Gorai Beach to restore the beauty of the shoreline and spread awareness about responsible waste management. A meaningful interaction with members of the local Koli community gave them valuable insights into how plastic pollution affects marine life, fishing activities and the livelihoods of coastal families. The discussion encouraged students to reflect on the role each individual plays in protecting the environment.”

The Salesian added, “Equipped with gloves and collection bags, the young volunteers diligently gathered and segregated plastic waste, bottles, wrappers, and other litter strewn across the beach. Their efforts not only rejuvenated a part of the coastline but also demonstrated that every responsible action, however small, contributes to a cleaner and healthier planet.”

The drive concluded later that morning and the team returned to school with a renewed commitment to environmental stewardship, civic responsibility, and sustainable living.

The Salesian concluded, “This was more than a cleanliness campaign. It was a powerful lesson in action, compassion and collective responsibility. Through this initiative, the students proved that true change begins when young minds choose to care, act and inspire others. As these young eco-warriors left footprints on the sand, they also left behind a lasting message that protecting our planet is everyone’s responsibility, and every effort creates a wave of change.”
