INDIA: 50 new teachers hired to teach in Salesian schools in Tiruchy

(MissionNewswire) The Academic Commission of the Salesian Province of Tiruchy in India has welcomed 50 new teachers who will be serving in Salesian schools. Salesians organized an induction day to introduce the teachers to the Salesian educational mission and deepen their understanding of St. John Bosco’s Preventive System.
The event was started by Father Victor Antonyraj, vice-provincial, who highlighted the relevance of Salesian teaching today, emphasizing its contribution to the education of youth through values and human development. Sessions were led by Father Jeyan Joseph, who explored the Salesian educational heritage by explaining the preventive system, founded on the three pillars of reason, religion and loving kindness. He reminded participants that teaching in a Salesian school is first and foremost a vocation, which requires supporting youth through their presence, dialogue, encouragement, trust and sincere educational care.
A Salesian noted, “During the sessions, participants also reflected on the challenges of contemporary education, with teachers being encouraged to integrate new technologies with student-centered teaching methods capable of fostering critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration, while not losing sight of character education and the integral development of the person.”
Concluding the program, Fr. Joseph urged the teachers to cultivate a genuine and caring presence in their students’ lives, reminding them that, even in an era of technological and social change, the closeness of an educator remains one of the most effective tools for supporting growth.
Access to professional training and workforce development services is highly valued in India. India’s youth face a lack of educational opportunities due to issues of caste, class and gender. Almost 44% of the workforce is illiterate and less than 10% of the working-age population has completed a secondary education. In addition, many secondary school graduates do not have the knowledge and skills to compete in today’s changing job market.
