Aim to empower 13,000 students each year

(MissionNewswire) Salesian missionaries, located in Kigali, Rwanda, have begun the distribution of ProFuturo replacement technology toolkits to participating schools to strengthen digital education for youth across the country.

The distribution provides schools with replacement digital learning equipment to ensure the continuity and sustainability of the ProFuturo Digital Education Program. The initiative provides tablets, computers and supporting accessories to schools that have been implementing the program over the years.

Since its initial rollout in 2019, the ProFuturo Digital Education Program has worked to integrate digital tools into classrooms and reduce the educational gap in vulnerable communities across Rwanda. The program was launched in partnership with the Rwandan Ministry of Education, the Rwanda Basic Education Board and strategic partners including the Salesians of Don Bosco, World Vision and UNHCR.

A Salesian explained, “The replacement of aging equipment is a critical step in maintaining the effectiveness of digital learning environments. By providing schools with updated devices and accessories, the initiative ensures that teachers can continue delivering engaging lessons and that learners can access interactive educational content without interruption.”

The goal is replenishing outdated equipment in 31 schools and to directly reach 300 teachers and empower over 13,000 students every year. By replacing these crucial resources, the Salesians and the ProFuturo program are ensuring that students and educators maintain access to the reliable tools they need to succeed in today’s digital landscape.

Salesian missionaries provide a range of educational and social development services in Rwanda. Youth who are poor are able to access programs including health services, nutrition, education and general support services that help them to lead healthy productive lives. Salesians first arrived in the country in 1953. Today, there are six Salesian centers in Rwanda.
