Clinic includes examinations, treatments

(MissionNewswire) Salesian missionaries held a medical clinic at Foyer Don Bosco, located in Kara, Togo, for the second time. Chinese medical providers offered medical consultations for youth who attend programs there. The doctors were welcomed by the home’s staff and by the youth who received medical examinations, health advice and appropriate treatment, when necessary.

At the end of the event, the managers warmly thanked the team of practitioners for their willingness to help and their commitment to the well-being of the youth. The visit demonstrates openness to initiatives that promote the health and development of the residents.

A Salesian noted, “The visit by this medical delegation was a significant milestone for the children’s home, reinforcing the work being done to promote well-being and care. It also highlights the importance of cooperation and the sharing of experiences in the field of healthcare.”

More than 80% of Togo’s rural population lives in conditions of poverty making the country one of the world’s poorest, according to the World Bank. Children in the country suffer the most, with close to 50% of those living in poverty under the age of 18. One in eight children will not reach their fifth birthday, and the number of children who drop out of school because their parents cannot afford to educate them is high. Children are also often forced to work in exploitative and dangerous conditions to help support their families.
