(MissionNewswire) The Salesian Los Boscos Center in Logroño, in the autonomous community of La Rioja, Spain, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this academic year. The celebrations began in April with a visit from local, regional and ecclesiastical authorities.

The center organized a commemorative ceremony recalling the history and role of the Salesian center and its impact on education in Logroño. The students welcomed the guests in the courtyard and sang a hymn composed for the occasion. They also unveiled the 75th anniversary banner in the courtyard gallery. Following the brief ceremony, guests visited an exhibition of vintage photographs set up in the school chapel, before concluding the event with a short talk on the role of the Salesian house.

Speakers included Father Iñaki Fernández Lerena, the center’s director; Father Fernando García, the superior of the Salesians of the Spain’s St. James the Greater province; Mayor Conrado Escobar; and Dr. Gonzalo Capellán, president of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja; among others. The speeches highlighted the important work carried out by María Teresa Gil de Gárate who, following the example of Don Bosco, assisted youth who are poor and at risk in Logroño.

Those present were given a small souvenir commemorating the day, and an evening celebration was held for alumni. The center also organized a roundtable discussion attended by representatives from key organizations and institutions in La Rioja. The celebrations concluded over the weekend with a theatrical performance by “Sapo Producciones”, followed by a community lunch for gathering and shared celebration among students, families, alumni, and friends.

A Salesian noted, “Salesian missionaries in Spain provide primary and secondary education as well as vocational and technical school to ensure youth acquire employment skills for their futures. Salesians also work to meet the basic needs of youth living in poverty and offer workforce development opportunities to ensure an easier school to work transition.”
