SPAIN: Nearly 80,000 students return to 94 Salesian schools
Year characterized by pastoral theme ‘This Is Your Home’
(MissionNewswire) Nearly 80,000 students returned to the 94 Salesian schools across Spain. These schools are supported by around 6,000 teachers. The new year is characterized by the pastoral theme “This Is Your Home”, chosen to mark the 150th anniversary of the publication of Don Bosco’s Preventive System.
A Salesian explained, “The educational program invites students to rediscover the Salesian method, which is founded on three pillars: reason, religion and loving kindness. Drawing inspiration from the experience of Valdocco — the first house founded by Don Bosco to welcome young people — Salesian schools and centers aim to be places capable of offering a warm welcome, education, growth in the faith and authentic relationships.”
To support the year’s educational program, materials have been prepared for schools, youth centers, social programs and parishes. Salesians in Spain have a vast educational and pastoral network. Vocational training is particularly significant, with 56 centers attended by over 18,000 students and supported by nearly 2,000 teachers.
The Salesian social platforms run more than 400 projects reaching over 66,000 people. More than 100 youth centers support around 36,000 youth, while 54 parishes offer spiritual care to nearly 47,000 parishioners.
The Salesian added, “Alongside the Salesians, numerous groups from the Salesian Family, nongovernmental organizations, academic institutions and other educational organizations are also active, giving rise to a broad movement committed to the human, social and Christian development of the younger generations.”
