SPAIN: Campaign supports job placement, residential care for youth

The Don Bosco Foundation in Spain led the #CorazónSalesiano campaign to promote socio-occupational integration and residential care for youth at risk of exclusion.

Donor commitment helps provide important services for youth at risk of exclusion

SPAIN

(MissionNewswire) The Don Bosco Foundation in Spain led the #CorazónSalesiano campaign to promote socio-occupational integration and residential care for youth at risk of exclusion. The campaign, which took place in January, invited people to create a future full of opportunities for those who need it most.

In Spain, thousands of youth face barriers that hinder their access to the labor market. Lack of training, economic constraints and the absence of support networks are all challenges. For over 25 years, the Don Bosco Foundation has been working to provide training, guidance and access to work.

Thanks to donor support, the foundation has already been able to offer important services. There has been resident assistance, providing a family environment house where hundreds of youth are supported. Direct support for youth to help them with job placement plans were designed with consultants and educators to meet the needs and aspirations of each youth.

A Salesian said, “The #CorazónSalesiano campaign seeks to bring together new members who wish to support this work. With the slogan ‘Become a member and write their future’, the initiative underlines the importance of citizens’ commitment to improving the lives of young people in vulnerable situations. Becoming a member involves not only a financial contribution, but also the opportunity to be an active part of a life-changing movement.”

The foundation has also offered training programs that have been adapted to the demands of the labor market in sectors such as hospitality, new technologies, renewable energy and customer service. Internships and work placements are available as the result of agreements with companies that facilitate access to work experiences and real jobs. Finally, there has been emotional support for these youth in the form of safe spaces where they can overcome difficulties and regain confidence in their potential.

Laura, a 19-year-old girl who arrived at the foundation with no future prospects after dropping out of school, is one of the success stories. Through a customer service course and the constant support of her tutor, Laura has not only completed her training, but now works in a telecommunications company.

Laura said, “The Don Bosco Foundation gave me a second chance. Today, I am independent and I am building a future for myself and my family.”
