SPAIN: 20,000 youth take part in Salesian summer activities

Salesians across the globe hold camps, educational courses

SPAIN

(MissionNewswire) This summer, 20,000 youth are taking part in summer camps and educational courses at Salesian centers across Spain. Close to 3,500 people, including Salesian missionaries and staff, will be involved in carrying out these activities. The goal is to offer spaces for recreation and fun in an educational environment with supportive adults. Salesians will also offer Faith Education Program camps that will help youth grow in their faith.

During the summer months, young Salesian educators also participate in training experiences, such as courses for leaders and courses to qualify as teachers or recreation coordinators.

Salesians across the globe hold special summer activities. One of the most significant experiences is missionary volunteering. Close 100 youth from Spain are spending their summer volunteering in Salesian centers in countries such as Equatorial Guinea, Honduras, Brazil, Peru, Uganda, Colombia, Angola or Nigeria. This activity is organized by the Salesian provinces of Spain, the Salesian Mission Office in Madrid, Salesian Jóvenes y Desarrollo and Bosco Global.

A Salesian explained, “During the summer, Salesian organizations maintain their commitment to youth in vulnerable situations through summer camps, pilgrimages, and other recreational and educational activities. These are facilitated by professionals and the commitment of many volunteers.”

The summer activities in Spain organized by the Salesians can be followed on social networks, through the hashtag #VeranoSalesiano.

Salesian missionaries in Spain provide primary and secondary educational as well as vocational and technical school to ensure youth acquire employment skills for the futures. Salesians also work to meet the basic needs of those in poverty and offer workforce development opportunities to ensure an easier school to work transition.
