ITALY: Students awarded for AI robot

Salesian Rainerum Institute encourages students in field of robotics
(MissionNewswire) Students from Salesian Rainerum Institute, located in Bolzano, Italy, recently attended the Genius Olympiad, an international competition of excellence, held in the United States at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Henrietta, N.Y. The students, part of the Rainerum Robotics Group, created the R.E.I. Robot, which they defined as artificial intelligence with a heart. The students won a bronze medal for their invention.
R.E.I. stands for Robotic Emphatic Intelligence and is a humanoid robot capable of perceiving and communicating emotions through the integration of facial recognition technologies, neural networks and Artificial Intelligence. Students Augusto Martino, Arianna Marrone, Elia Vismara, Elisa Aricó, Maximilian Ilias and Noah Perli were excited to receive an award in the prestigious international competition.
Professor Stefano Monfalcon, dean of Salesian Rainerum Institute, said, “Artificial Intelligence and its use are now the new frontier in the field of innovation and the new real challenge. R.E.I. is an example of artificial intelligence used and mastered by students for a robotics project at the service of man.”
Salesian Rainerum Institute has focused on technologies like artificial intelligence and encouraged students in the field of robotics.
Monfalcon and Father Ivan Ghidina, director of the school, issued a joint statement: “We are really very proud of the fact that our dear students receive awards and confirm the potential and creativity of the South Tyrolean territory in the world. We are also grateful to the students who, with their passion and creativity, show us the way forward to always remain innovative and offer new answers to the needs of the time. Our youngsters, in a sense, are also our teachers.”
