ITALY

(MissionNewswire) Salesian missionaries with the Salesian Cultural Center in Rome have started the first phase of the education project, “Alice Through the Screen”. The project was started as part of Italy‘s National Plan for Cinema and Images for Schools and is promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education and Merit. The initiative is aimed at primary school students to guide them in the use of media while promoting principles of inclusion, solidarity and participation.

Fabio Zenadocchio, director of the Salesian Cultural Center, noted, “We are happy to be able to strengthen our relationship with the schools, which have welcomed our project with enthusiasm.”

The first phase offers classroom training introducing young students to the art of cinema using an educational notebook created with the guidance of psychologists and child specialists. The meetings involve nine schools in Lazio, Tuscany and Liguria, and will impact more than 800 students and 90 teachers.

In the second phase of the project, students will participate in film screenings designed for a primary school audience. After watching, the students will be engaged in discussion to explore the issues within the films.

The final phase of the project will allow children to explore the professional dynamics of a real film environment. It is anticipated that teachers will be able to remotely facilitate communication with the involved cinemas to promote screenings and training activities.

The Salesian Cultural Center is a nonprofit association focused on social communication through study, experimentation, promotion, training, organization, and the implementation of projects and initiatives relating to culture and art from many perspectives.
