INDIA: Training institute to prepare youth for green, digital sectors

Don Bosco Industrial Training Institute signs agreement for German collaboration

INDIA

(MissionNewswire) Don Bosco Industrial Training Institute, located in Kurla, a suburb of East Mumbai, India, signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding to strengthen the Indo-German vocational collaboration. With the goal of preparing youth for green and digital sectors such as solar energy and e-mobility, the agreement brings together the Don Bosco Institute, Germany’s HWK Region Stuttgart and German Society for International Cooperation under the Indo-German Green Skills Program.

A 16-member German delegation received a traditional welcome and engaged with the institute’s leadership on industry-linked training. The visitors also interacted with students pursuing German language preparation, emphasizing technical excellence alongside intercultural readiness.

A Salesian explained, “The agreement prioritizes curriculum adaptation to German standards, structured migration pathways and greater participation of women in technical trades. Bridge courses and B1/B2-level language training form part of the preparation framework. Effective until December 2027, the partnership establishes sustained institutional cooperation. The initiative strengthens global opportunities for the institute’s trainees and reinforces its mission. True to its motto, the institute continues to help youth ‘Learn a Trade, Earn a Living.’”

Access to professional training and workforce development services is highly valued in India. India’s youth face a lack of educational opportunities due to issues of caste, class and gender. Almost 44% of the workforce is illiterate and less than 10% of the working-age population has completed a secondary education. In addition, many secondary school graduates do not have the knowledge and skills to compete in today’s changing job market.

India has the world’s fourth largest economy but more than 22% of the country lives in poverty. About 31% of the world’s multidimensionally poor children live in India, according to a report by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative.
