INDIA: Students achieve coding skills

Don Bosco Youth Center provides free web development program

INDIA

(MissionNewswire) Don Bosco Youth Center, located in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, India, held a web developer program for 23 students. The program was free for students and ensured that aspiring coders, regardless of their financial backgrounds, had an equal opportunity to acquire valuable skills.

Guided by a comprehensive curriculum, the web developer program equipped students with the knowledge to craft small-scale websites independently, marking a significant step toward their professional careers.

The program extended beyond technical expertise by incorporating employability skills that empower students in a rapidly evolving employment landscape. The skills they learned will set the stage for successful integration into the workforce.

After completion, students earned two certificates. The first is a DBTech course completion certificate to mark the students’ dedication and growth throughout the program. The second is the NSDC Level 4 certificate for meeting industry standards.

A Salesian missionary with Don Bosco Youth Center said, “The web developer program is a testament to the power of education and innovation, poised to carve a new path for aspiring coders and reaffirm the commitment to a more inclusive, digitally empowered society.”

India has the world’s fourth largest economy but more than 22% of the country lives in poverty. About 31% of the world’s multidimensionally poor children live in India, according to a report by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative.

India’s youth face a lack of educational opportunities due to issues of caste, class and gender. Almost 44% of the workforce is illiterate and less than 10% of the working-age population has completed a secondary education. In addition, many secondary school graduates do not have the knowledge and skills to compete in today’s changing job market.
