(MissionNewswire) The Salesian Provincial House in Bangalore, India, hosted a two-day workshop on the risks of digital addiction. The workshop, organized by the Salesian Psychological Association, was attended by 65 people, including psychologists, consultants, rectors, teachers, social workers and researchers from various parts of the country.

Experts focused on topics related to mobile phone addiction and methods to get treat and combat it. Dr. Dominic Dixon, former director of UNADAP, a foreign policy and humanitarian organization in New York, spoke about pornography addiction and its impact, and evaluating effective rehabilitation methods.

The workshop also addressed the growing issues with these types of addictions, focusing on strategies and interventions to mitigate their impact on individuals and communities. The workshop was aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3, which emphasizes health and well-being. It aimed to promote healthier digital habits and improve mental and physical health.

A Salesian noted, “Youth are inundated with all kinds of digital information and we are seeing addictions coming out of that. While this kind of technology surely has benefits, there are drawbacks as well when people abuse it and become dependent on it. We held this seminar to ensure that our teachers, social workers, and practitioners have the knowledge and skills to recognize these addictions and have the strategies to help combat it with the youth in our centers.”

Salesian programs across India are primarily focused on education. Salesian primary and secondary education in the country helps youth prepare for later technical, vocational or university study. Other programs help to support youth and their families by meeting the basic needs of shelter, proper nutrition and medical care.
