INDIA

(MissionNewswire) Salesian schools from North Bengal, India, emerged as winners at the Telegraph Awards for Excellence – North Bengal Chapter, held at the Birla Divya Jyoti School auditorium in November. Don Bosco School Oodlabari led with five distinctions across diverse categories, while Don Bosco School Siliguri followed closely with four accolades. Each award the schools received reflected the Salesian commitment to academic rigor, social responsibility and vibrant student life.

Don Bosco Oodlabari’s recognitions included honor certificates for excellence in maintenance and eco-friendly initiatives, social service, extra-curricular activities and the “School That Cares” citation. The school also received a merit certificate for academic excellence. Most notably, it was declared the title winner for excellence in social service, a tribute to its sustained efforts in nurturing compassion, civic engagement and a culture of care among its students.

Don Bosco School Siliguri was honored with the TTEF Certificate of Honor for social service, the IIHM Award for academic excellence, a certificate of merit for maintenance and eco-friendly initiatives, and the Vidya Mandir Trust’s Certificate of Merit for extra-curricular activities. The school was also declared the title winner for IIHM Award for academic excellence.

A Salesian said, “The two-day celebration of excellence brought together schools from across the region, recognizing achievements in academics, sports, music, environmental stewardship, and community outreach. Hundreds of students were provided certificates, while scholarships were awarded to support deserving learners from economically challenged backgrounds. The event reaffirmed the Salesian educational vision — rooted in reason, religion, and loving-kindness — as a beacon of transformative learning in North Bengal.”

Salesian programs across India are primarily focused on education. Salesian primary and secondary education in the country helps youth prepare for later technical, vocational or university study. Other programs help to support poor youth and their families by meeting the basic needs of shelter, proper nutrition and medical care.
