INDIA: Program instills ecological responsibility in youth

Don Bosco School CBSE environmental event held to plant saplings
(MissionNewswire) Don Bosco School CBSE, located in Gunadala, Vijayawada, India, hosted the Vanam Manam program, an initiative aimed to foster environmental consciousness and promote a greener, pollution-free environment. The program included participation from students, parents, teachers and staff.
Held within the school campus, the event featured the planting of saplings, along with community engagement and a collective pledge to care for the planet. The Vanam Manam initiative is part of the school’s broader mission to instill ecological responsibility in youth, especially at a time when the world faces the growing challenges of global warming and environmental degradation.
Speaking at the event, Father Bhaskar, principal, highlighted the importance of afforestation and environmental stewardship. He said, “Every sapling planted is a promise for a healthier planet and a better future.”
Parents were invited as guests of honor, symbolizing the spirit of shared responsibility. They participated alongside their children in planting a variety of saplings.
A Salesian noted, “The school grounds came alive with energy and purpose as students, under the guidance of teachers and parents, engaged in the tree-planting activity. The hands-on experience not only connected them with nature but also reinforced the message that small, consistent actions can bring about significant environmental change. The Vanam Manam initiative stands as a testament to how educational institutions can lead the way in environmental activism, nurturing both trees and the young minds who will protect them.”
