ECUADOR: Salesians launch collaborative project to empower women entrepreneurs
Women gain access to support programs, education
(MissionNewswire) The Salesian Costa Norte Project Foundation in Ecuador, in collaboration with the Mary Help of Christians Formation Center and the St. John Bosco Community of Esmeraldas, has officially launched a new project aimed at strengthening women’s skills, leadership and entrepreneurship. The project includes the participation of the Salesian Province and the Del Valle Foundation.
Aiming to empower women entrepreneurs and those in vulnerable situations, the project will offer social support programs, education and the creation of real opportunities for improving their living conditions.
Salesians first hosted a “Women Entrepreneurs Project Start-up Workshop”, where the basic framework of the project, administrative guidelines, the available budget, the coordination model and the implementation path were presented. Additional workshops will be held at other locations to reach more women for technical skills, leadership, personal development and basic finance training. Students will also learn skills and be provided with tools to start small businesses with sustainability and vision for the future.
A Salesian said, “The launch of this project represents a firm commitment to women’s empowerment and social inclusion. Costa Norte Salesian Project Foundation and its allies seek to generate opportunities that transform the lives of entrepreneurial and vulnerable women, providing them with the tools to contribute to the local economy and strengthen the social fabric of communities.”
Salesians provide social development and educational programs across Ecuador to help youth who are poor gain an education and the skills for later employment. The skills they learn ensure they are able to care for themselves and their families while being contributing members of their communities.
