(MissionNewswire) The Salesian Polytechnic University has launched a new community engagement and outreach project in the Salesian missions in Yaupi, Bomboiza, and Sevilla Don Bosco in Ecuador. The main goal is to provide academic support and digital resources to students in Amazonian communities. This project will benefit 120 youth.

A Salesian noted, “A key component of the project involves equipping local schools with computer technology. By doing so, Salesian Polytechnic University is providing essential digital tools to strengthen learning and reduce the digital divide that affects these marginalized communities. The aim is to ensure fairer access to education and to empower Indigenous youth and residents of remote areas to compete on equal footing with their peers in urban or less isolated regions both in education and in the job market.”

Salesian Polytechnic University is also providing teachers with resources and will play central role in supporting the learning process. A project coordinator explained, “This isn’t just about teaching — it’s about walking together and building bridges.”

The project coordinator added, “The project creates a dual impact. While young people in the missions strengthen their academic skills, university students gain valuable interpersonal, intercultural and social experience — skills rarely acquired in a purely academic environment. It’s a meaningful, mutual learning experience.”

“This project is not a charity,” the project coordinator concluded. “It’s a commitment to equity, intercultural dialogue, and educational justice. It’s also an expression of active faith, which inspires every Salesian mission. At Salesian Polytechnic University, we believe that to educate is to build bonds, to engage and to help shape the future not just for others, but with them.”

Salesians provide social development and educational programs across Ecuador to help youth who are poor gain an education and the skills for later employment. The skills they learn ensure they are able to care for themselves and their families while being contributing members of their communities.
