Sale of products helps fund Salesian initiatives across country

ARGENTINA

(MissionNewswire) Salesians were represented at the 20th edition of “Caminos y Sabores”, known as “The Great Argentine Market”, a leading gastronomic and cultural fair in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Don Bosco for Young People, the local Salesian Mission Office, set up a pavilion to sell products made in Salesian agricultural technical schools. Wines, olive oil, yerba mate, dulce de leche and cheeses were showcased.

According to the event organizers, the four-day fair had more than 100,000 visitors, the participation of more than 500 producers from across the country and 40 guest chefs. The event combines gastronomic and cultural aspects, representing Argentina’s diverse identity.

A Salesian explained, “Students took part in the production process of the things sold as part of their education. Don Bosco for Young People has been taking part in this fair for over 10 years. We allocate the proceeds from the sale of these products to support initiatives carried out in Salesian centers across the country. This helps to fund education, vocational training, and social and pastoral activities, as well as the missionary work in Argentine Patagonia.”

The central theme of the Salesian pavilion was the 150th anniversary of the first arrival of Salesian missionaries sent by St. John Bosco in 1875 to Argentina. While at the fair, the team from Don Bosco for Young People received visits from prominent figures, current staff of the organization, graduates of Salesian educational centers in Argentina and other countries, and the families of graduates.

Gonzalo López, a representative of the Salesian Carlos M. Casares Agricultural Technical School in Del Valle, took advantage of the opportunities for discussion and meetings with representatives from other institutions to showcase the school’s range of products.
