INDIA: Students present cultural exhibition focused on environmental concerns
Event celebrates diversity, shared responsibility toward the Earth
(MissionNewswire) Students at St. Dominic Savio High School, located in Andheri, a suburb in western Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, presented a class exhibition on the theme “Different Cultures, One World” and the sub-theme “Caring for Creation”. The exhibition celebrated diversity, creativity, learning and shared responsibility toward the Earth.
The event commenced with a welcome followed by the skit “The Earth Has No Borders”. A Salesian noted, “Through the performance, students conveyed that although we come from different countries, speak different languages, wear different clothes and celebrate different traditions, we all share one common home, the Earth. The skit highlighted environmental concerns across nations and reminded everyone that caring for creation is a shared responsibility.”
In a dance presentation, students portrayed different countries that participated in the FIFA World Cup. Through music, movement and colorful costumes, the performance depicted how people from different nations can come together, celebrate their differences, and share joy and friendship.
A special presentation then offered a glimpse into the efforts behind the exhibition. It showcased the practices, preparation, and making of the models, highlighting how students, parents ,and teachers worked together.
In his address, Father Francisco Pereira encouraged everyone to appreciate the beauty, progress and rich cultures of different countries. He reminded those present to respect and learn from every culture, celebrate unity in diversity, and remember that Earth is a common home.
During the events, the hall was transformed into a journey across the globe with 16 countries represented including Australia, Bhutan, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Egypt, India, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Netherlands, Scotland, South Korea, Thailand and the UAE.
Each display explored language, festivals, currency, traditional attire, food, culture and traditions. Most importantly, students connected their learning to “Caring for Creation” through models and charts highlighting environmental concerns faced by different countries and measures being undertaken toward sustainable development goals put forth by the United Nations.
The Salesian added, “More than an academic showcase, the exhibition left a meaningful impact on young minds. It encouraged students to look beyond their own surroundings, appreciate cultural differences, and understand their connection with people and places across the world. They learnt that caring for the Earth is a shared responsibility and that even small actions can make a difference. The experience nurtured curiosity, respect, environmental awareness and a sense of responsibility, inspiring our young learners to become thoughtful citizens of one shared world.”
