Initiative includes 120 youth leaders

(MissionNewswire) The 2026 edition of the Salesians of Don Bosco’s Summer Camp in Vasto, Italy, ended in July. Over the summer, the Salesian oratory became a hub for more than 700 youth who took part in games, workshops, educational activities and moments of prayer over the course of four weeks.

The initiative was made possible by 120 youth leaders and 80 adult volunteers who, together with the Salesians and educators, dedicated their time and energy to the development of the youth attending the camp.

The theme of the 2026 edition, inspired by the animated film Kung Fu Panda, underpinned the educational program, encouraging participants to live fully in the present and to rediscover the value of genuine relationships.

A Salesian explained, “Behind the success of the initiative was a great deal of preparatory work, involving months of education and joint organization between activity leaders, families and the educational community. We appreciate the time and dedication of our volunteers and supporters.”

More activities are planned for the rest of the summer. Older youth will be able to register for Trisport, an evening tournament for older youth and adults that includes soccer, volleyball and basketball matches, as well as wildcard games.

Salesian programs across Italy help youth who are unable to attend school and others who drop out to work at the few jobs available to them. A growing number of children work as laborers on farms and others have turned to the sex trade to help support their families. Those in poverty often live without adequate shelter, hot water, regular meals and healthcare.
