INDIA: Don Bosco Tech launches new skills training program in drone and solar technologies

Program aims to prepare youth for meaningful careers
(MissionNewswire) The Don Bosco Tech Skill Training Program in India has launched a new initiative to teach youth drone and solar technologies, two growing fields with potential for employment and sustainable development. Sponsored by SBI Foundation, the program will empower youth and connect them with careers.
A Salesian noted, “The program reflects Don Bosco Tech’s commitment to aligning its training modules with emerging industries. By focusing on advanced technology, the collaboration with SBI Foundation aims to prepare youth not just for jobs, but for meaningful careers that respond to both economic and environmental needs.”
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Father Garlapati Michael Kishore, vice provincial of the Salesian Hyderabad Province, who commended the joint efforts of Don Bosco Tech and SBI Foundation in preparing youth for the future. He said, “This initiative opens doors to new career opportunities and empowers young people with skills that are both relevant and forward-looking.”
Other dignitaries at the event highlighted the transformative role of skills training and stressed how specialized courses in modern technologies can directly contribute to the green economy and sustainable livelihoods.
Salesian missionaries living and working in India place special emphasis on rescuing and rehabilitating children engaged in child labor. There are Salesian-run programs throughout the country that have helped hundreds of thousands of youth who were vulnerable.
India has the world’s fourth largest economy but more than 22% of the country lives in poverty. About 31% of the world’s multidimensionally poor children live in India, according to a report by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative. A multidimensionally poor child is one who lacks at least one-third of 10 indicators, grouped into three dimensions of poverty: health, education and standard of living.
