INDIA: Families impacted by flooding receive food relief kits

Bangalore Rural Educational and Development Society collaborates in initiative
(MissionNewswire) Bangalore Rural Educational and Development Society (BREADS) in India, in collaboration with Bosconet and supported by Nestlé India’s CSR initiative, distributed 5,000 essential food kits to flood-affected families across the Thrissur, Ernakulam, and Kottayam districts of Kerala. The initiative, conducted through the Don Bosco Centers in the three districts, provided relief to communities after heavy monsoon rains and flooding.
Each food kit contained rice, pulses, oil, spices and other staples to help meet the urgent needs of families. In Thrissur, 2,000 kits were distributed across two heavily affected areas, and in Ernakulam, 1,000 families benefited from the aid. In Kottayam, 2,000 kits were provided in Kadaplamattom in the Kottayam municipality and Vijayapuram.
Local leaders, municipal officials, and community volunteers collaborated with BREADS and Don Bosco staff to ensure efficient distribution, identifying the most vulnerable families. Representatives from Nestlé India and local government bodies were present at several distribution sites.
A Salesian from BREADS said, “This effort is a testament to what can be achieved when civil society, corporate partners, and local communities come together in the spirit of compassion and service. It’s not just about delivering food — it’s about delivering hope and restoring dignity.”
BREADS extended its appreciation to all collaborators, especially Bosconet for coordination, Nestlé India for funding support, and the countless volunteers and civic authorities who helped translate a vision of relief into reality. Through initiatives like these, BREADS continues to support communities in need and strives to rebuild their lives of those impacted.
Salesian programs in India are primarily focused on education. Salesian primary and secondary education helps youth prepare for later technical, vocational or university study. Other programs help to support poor youth and their families by meeting the basic needs of shelter, proper nutrition and medical care.
